Don’t Look Too Far Ahead

250.4 pounds. + 0.5 pounds today, + 0.5 pounds this week,  - 82.6 pounds overall.

Lately, I’ve been struggling to lose weight, and after some honest reflection, I think I know why.

I’ve been looking too far ahead.

It’s easy to do. You start thinking months into the future. You imagine how much weight you could lose, how different you might look, how good it will feel when you finally get there. Those thoughts can be motivating at first, but they can also become overwhelming.

When the horizon is too far away, today starts to feel small. One choice doesn’t seem to matter as much. Progress feels slow, and frustration creeps in.

So I’m making a change.

Instead of focusing on a month, I’m shifting my attention to one week.

A week is manageable. A week is something I can wrap my head around. I know my weight won’t go down every single day. That’s not realistic. But over the course of a week, if I’m doing the right things consistently, the trend should move in the right direction.

Looking at a whole month has been too big of a target for me. It’s made progress feel distant instead of doable. One week, on the other hand, feels actionable. It keeps me focused on what I can control right now.

This shift isn’t about lowering expectations. It’s about creating momentum. When I can stack good weeks together, the months take care of themselves.

I’m excited to see where this leads.

Sometimes the best way forward isn’t to aim farther. It’s to aim closer.

What time horizon works best for you when you’re working toward a goal?
