249.4 pounds. - 0.0 pounds today, - 83.6 pounds overall, - 2.6 pounds toward my goal of losing 10 pounds in January.

Health doesn’t always show up on a perfect schedule. Sometimes it shows up as an opportunity—and you either take it or you don’t.

Today, I’m in Dallas, where the temperature is about 50 degrees warmer than back home in Minnesota. I packed workout clothes and planned to walk on the treadmill in the hotel gym. That was the plan.

But then I stepped outside.

The day was absolutely beautiful. Blue skies. Comfortable air. One of those days that feels like a gift. So instead of heading to the gym, I went outside and walked for nearly an hour along a path next to a lake.

It was marvelous.

The walk reminded me of all the outdoor walking I love to do when the weather is warm back home in Minnesota. It also showed me something else that really mattered: the work I’ve been putting in is paying off.

Because of all the walking I’ve been doing on the treadmill at home, this walk felt easy. My heart rate stayed low. My body felt strong. Compared to where I was six months ago, the difference was undeniable.

That’s a powerful reminder.

The things you do when it’s inconvenient, boring, or repetitive are what prepare you to enjoy moments like this. You don’t get fit for one perfect day—you get fit by stacking ordinary days together until your body is ready when opportunity shows up.

I’m really glad I took advantage of this moment instead of defaulting to what was easiest or most familiar. It motivated me to keep doing what I’m doing back home, even when the weather isn’t ideal and the treadmill isn’t exciting.

Because I know this: when spring and summer finally return to Minnesota, I want to be ready. I want outdoor walks to feel good. I want my body to be capable. I want to enjoy them fully.

Opportunities don’t always announce themselves. Sometimes they look like a change in scenery, a break in routine, or a beautiful day you didn’t expect.

The key is being prepared—and choosing to act when the chance is there.

What opportunity can you take advantage of today to support your health?
