244.2 pounds, + 0.2 pounds today, - 88.8 pounds overall, 11.2 pounds from my goal of losing 100 pounds.

Last night I learned a lesson the hard way. After finishing work, I went for my 2 mile walk and told myself repeatedly that I wouldn’t eat for the rest of the night since it was after 5 p.m. I felt great—confident, maybe even a little overconfident.

When I got home, everything was going perfectly… until I tried “just a little” of a treat my daughter was eating. You can probably guess what happened next. That one bite turned into another kind of treat, then another, and eventually into a full meal. It wasn’t a disaster, but it wasn’t the right decision either.

This morning, the scale reflected my choice with a 0.2 pound gain. It wasn’t much, but what really stung was the regret. I knew that if I had stayed strong and not eaten after 5 p.m., I would have lost weight instead.

The lesson? Don’t tempt yourself with “just one bite.” It sounds harmless, but for me, it rarely stops there. It’s actually easier to have nothing than to have a taste and try to stop.

As Clint Eastwood’s character Dirty Harry once said, “A man’s gotta know his limitations.” Last night reminded me of mine.

So today, I start fresh, with humility, awareness, and a renewed commitment to making the right choices. Every slip can still become a step forward if you learn from it.
