245.7 pounds, + 0.2 pounds today, - 87.3 pounds overall, 12.7 pounds from my goal of losing 100 pounds.
Yesterday I followed my plan pretty well, but I did have some ice cream, and this morning I saw that I gained 0.2 pounds. I’m not happy about the gain, but I’m also not beating myself up over it.
Here’s why. If I never allow myself to enjoy foods that fall outside my plan, the pressure builds up until it eventually bursts. That’s when people go off the deep end and undo a lot of progress in one weekend. I’ve learned that balance is far more sustainable than perfection.
That’s why I recommend avoiding overly restrictive plans. Diets that completely eliminate your favorite foods almost always lead to burnout or bingeing.
Instead, stop banning foods. Allow yourself small portions of the things you enjoy. A scoop of ice cream, a slice of pizza, a handful of chips in moderation will not derail your progress. In fact, it can help you stay consistent long term by removing the sense of guilt and rebellion that comes with off limits thinking.
Last night’s ice cream wasn’t a failure. It was a reminder that this journey isn’t about perfection. It’s about learning how to live with balance, patience, and grace.
One small step, one mindful choice, one balanced day at a time is how real, lasting progress happens.
