When people remember the 1980 Miracle On Ice U.S. Men's Olympic hockey team they remember the huge win against the mighty Soviet Union team made up of players that easily defeated the NHL All Stars before the Olympics. The win was a huge shot in the arm to all Americans, regardless of their interest in hockey. What most people forget is that the U.S. did not with the gold medal by winning that game. They still had to play Finland and if they didn't win that game they would not have won the gold medal. Some people believe that Herb Brooks, the coach of the team, did his greatest work in coaching the team to win against Finland, not because that was a better team than the Soviet Union, but because of the emotional high of beating the Soviet Union and the inevitable let down of then having to play Finland. It is all too common after a big win to have a let down and to lose against a lesser opponent the next game. The same goes for weight loss.

Yesterday I followed my plan perfectly and I was rewarded on the scale this morning in a huge way by losing 2 pounds. What a tremendous feeling. I feel like celebrating. Unfortunately for me, celebrating typically involves eating things I shouldn't, like donuts or ice cream. Rather than celebrate by eating what I shouldn't, I'm going to bask in great feeling of this victory, but only for a little while. I need to keep my eyes on the prize and realize that I have to keep fighting today just like I did yesterday. The last thing I want to have happen is to put those 2 pounds back on after having come this far. So celebrate briefly, but then move on.

Today is going to be a great day. I have a full day of work to keep me busy and then tonight I am going to a business event where dinner will be served. The dinner will be a buffet and desert will be served, but I shouldn't have a problem with it because it would be too noticeable if I went for a second helping of food. The key to my weight loss today is going to be skipping a meal prior to dinner. If I can do that I hope to lose weight again. We'll see what happens today and we'll see what the scale says tomorrow morning!
