It can take oil tankers 5-10 minutes and more than a mile to turn around when going full speed on the ocean, so why should we be surprised when it takes people more than a day to turn around from going in the wrong direction with their weight or health?
Yesterday I tried to turn the ship of state around immediately and it didn't work. I skipped breakfast thinking that I might not eat all day, but then at lunchtime I was famished and I ate like a horse. All of that caused the weight gain I saw on the scale this morning. Since I wasn't heading in the right direction the day before I should have slowed my roll before I tried to quit food cold turkey.
Today is going to be a difficult day. I am meeting a friend at Key's Cafe for breakfast. I love breakfast and I love Keys Cafe. They have such wonderful comfort food, and when it is cold outside I want comfort from my food, like a bear. I go there thinking I'll just have oatmeal, but when I see the menu and smell and see the food that others are eating it is all over. We'll see what happens today and we'll see what the scale says tomorrow morning!
